SARM Convention

A few weeks ago I covered the annual SARM mid-term convention in Regina SK. This event pushed me right out of my comfort zone into paparazzi mode with exceedingly high ISOs and countless conversations with complete strangers. But it was good for me! I learned about rural crime and 4-H and rural road maintenance. And I made some good contacts with several businesses. Perhaps there will be more conventions in my future!

My Kitchen

I searched high and low for ideas that would help me decide how to update our kitchen without painting our wooden cabinets. Wood seems to be making a come back and I wanted to work with the maple. However I found very little that inspired me on Pinterest. So I set out on my own course. I left the cabinets alone and changed the countertop and backsplash. I chose a white and grey custom arborite and large subway tiles. I also asked the contractor to remove the wooden valence above the sink connecting the two banks of cabinets and housing a halogen light fixture. I touched up the paint around the window and hung the black light fixture! voila!

Of course I had to do some pro photos afterward to capture the change. Hopefully they inspire you to love your wood cabinets!

Thanks to Home Comfort of Yorkton SK for a job well done.

Full Smile

No one really looks forward to getting their head shot done. In fact I think it might be a day most folks dread. So I am always thrilled when I can put a person at ease. I crack a few lame jokes, ask about their kids, stuff like that.

And then on some rare and mysterious occasions I find a person who feels entirely comfortable and laughs easily. They crack jokes and smile right at me. I just can’t help but snap some full smile shots. Because, In my opinion, a face is most wonderful when it is laughing!

Exploring YQR

I am constantly looking for new and interesting places to shoot in Regina.

Last fall I went to a Corb Lund concert at the Casino Regina. My husband and I drove up to the top of the parkade just east of the Casino and when i stepped out of of our vehicle I couldn’t help but notice the great city scape! Since then I have been itching to take pictures up there and last week I finally got my chance. Check out the view from the parkade!

Selfie help

Last night I was at an event with my sister. I grabbed my phone, tapped the camera and held it out to take a selfie of the two of us. She immediately recoiled and tried to hide exclaiming, “I hate selfies. Stop taking those when I am around.”
Of course I snapped the picture anyways. Neither of us looked our best but the event was documented. I then assured her I would help her with her selfie aversion. I held out the phone in front of us and made her try several different smiles. We found a 75% smile where here teeth were showing but her cheeks weren’t squishing her eyes that looked fantastic on her!
Then we worked on the head tilt. I like to tilt my head down slightly so you can’t see my nostrils. I instructed her to do the same. And then snap! I took the picture. It is a bit blurry but look how great she looks!

Be Nice

When I began my business I got some great advice from a photographer friend. She said, “being nice is half the business. Even if you aren’t that good, if you are nice then people will come back to you.”
Back in those days, I really wasn’t that good but I was nice and that really did count for something. 12 years later I like to think I am good and nice.

  1. instrument store

Hi this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you
have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding
experience so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience.
Any help would be enormously appreciated!

Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, I don’t have the answer on that one. I am currently using the template that came with my web designing subscription.
